Terms of Service

Welcome to LanguageDecrypt. By using our website, applications, or services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

LanguageDecrypt is a language reading and learning application that includes:

  • OCR-based text recognition powered by Google Cloud Vision
  • Dictionary lookup with definitions, pronunciation, and grammar
  • Spaced repetition flashcard system
  • Page reader with word highlighting and annotations

The Service is available on Windows, iOS, and Android. All user data (reading content, flashcards, preferences) is stored locally on your device — we do not provide cloud storage or sync.

3. Accounts

You must create an account to use the Service. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Keep your account credentials secure
  • Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account
  • Accept responsibility for all activity under your account

4. Subscriptions & Payments

4.1 Plans

The Service offers two tiers:

  • Basic (free) — 50 pages per month, 1 device, basic dictionary, offline access.
  • Pro ($7.99/month or annual billing at 20% off) — 2,000 pages per month, unlimited devices, advanced dictionary, pronunciation audio, grammar breakdowns, spaced repetition, and data export.

4.2 Billing

  • Monthly subscriptions are billed each month on the date you subscribed.
  • Annual subscriptions are billed once per year in advance at a discounted rate.
  • Prices are in USD and may be subject to applicable taxes.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice before your next billing cycle.

4.3 Refunds

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all Pro subscriptions. If you are unsatisfied for any reason within 30 days of purchase, contact us for a full refund. After 30 days, refunds are provided at our discretion.

4.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Upon cancellation:

  • You keep Pro features until the end of your current billing period.
  • Your account reverts to the free Basic plan after the billing period ends.
  • Your local data remains on your device and is not affected by cancellation.

5. Your Data & Content

5.1 Local Storage

Your reading content, flashcards, dictionary history, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not store, access, or back up this data on our servers. You are responsible for backing up your own data. If you uninstall the app or lose your device, your local data may be permanently lost.

5.2 OCR Processing

When you scan an image, it is sent to Google Cloud Vision API for text recognition. The image is processed and the results are returned to your device. Neither we nor Google retain your images after processing. By using the OCR feature, you agree to Google's Cloud Terms of Service.

5.3 Ownership

You retain full ownership of all content you create, import, or store using the Service. LanguageDecrypt claims no ownership rights over your content.

5.4 Content Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content you scan and import. Do not use the Service to process content that you do not have the right to use.

6. Usage Limits

Each plan includes a monthly page scanning limit (50 for Basic, 2,000 for Pro). Pages reset at the start of each billing cycle. Unused pages do not carry over. We reserve the right to enforce rate limits to protect the Service from abuse.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Use the OCR feature to process content you don't have the right to use
  • Attempt to bypass page limits or access controls
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service's infrastructure
  • Use automated tools to abuse the OCR or API endpoints
  • Share your Pro account credentials with others

8. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third-party services:

  • Google Cloud Vision API — for OCR text recognition. Subject to Google Cloud Terms.
  • Payment processor — for subscription billing. Subject to their own terms.
  • Firebase — for authentication. Subject to Firebase Terms.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third-party services.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service — including its design, code, logos, and documentation — is owned by LanguageDecrypt and protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available
  • OCR results or dictionary definitions will be 100% accurate
  • The Service will meet your specific learning goals
  • Your local data will be preserved in the event of device failure

Language learning tools are aids, not substitutes for formal instruction. We make no guarantees about learning outcomes.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LanguageDecrypt shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

Because your data is stored locally on your device and not on our servers, we are not liable for loss of local data due to device failure, uninstallation, or any other cause.

Our total liability for any claims shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LanguageDecrypt from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

13. Service Changes

We may modify, update, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. For paid features, we will provide at least 30 days' notice before removing functionality that Pro subscribers are paying for, and offer a pro-rated refund if applicable.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination:

  • Your access to the Service (including OCR processing) will be revoked.
  • Your local data remains on your device and is unaffected.
  • Your account information (email, subscription status) will be deleted from our servers within 30 days.
  • Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as limitation of liability and indemnification) will remain in effect.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which LanguageDecrypt is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of that jurisdiction.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
