Privacy Policy

LanguageDecrypt is built around a simple idea: your data belongs on your device, not on our servers. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what data we handle, what leaves your device, and what doesn't.

1. The Short Version

  • Your reading content, flashcards, dictionary history, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not store them on our servers.
  • When you use OCR scanning, your images are sent to Google Cloud Vision API for text recognition. We receive the results and return them to you. We do not store the images or the results.
  • We collect only what is strictly necessary to run the service: your account info, payment status, and basic analytics.
  • We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. We do not build profiles on you.

2. Data That Stays on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never uploaded to our servers:

  • Imported documents, book pages, manga, and screenshots
  • Dictionary lookup history
  • Flashcards and spaced repetition progress
  • Reading statistics and history
  • Notes, annotations, and highlights
  • App preferences and theme settings

If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this information is permanently deleted because it exists nowhere else.

3. Data That Leaves Your Device

3.1 OCR Processing (Google Cloud Vision)

When you scan an image for text recognition, the image is sent to Google Cloud Vision API for processing. Here's exactly what happens:

  • Your image is transmitted over an encrypted (TLS) connection to Google's servers.
  • Google processes the image and returns the recognized text.
  • We relay the results back to your device.
  • We do not store your images or the OCR results on our servers.
  • Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Cloud Privacy Notice and their Data Processing terms. Under their terms, data submitted to Cloud Vision API is not used by Google to improve their products or for advertising purposes.

3.2 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — for authentication, account recovery, and essential service emails (e.g., subscription receipts).
  • Password — stored as a secure hash. We never store your plaintext password.

3.3 Payment Information

If you subscribe to the Pro plan (monthly or annual), payment is handled entirely by our third-party payment processor. We never see or store your credit card number. We receive only:

  • Confirmation that payment succeeded or failed
  • Your subscription status (Basic or Pro, active or cancelled)
  • Billing country (for tax compliance)

3.4 Basic Analytics

We collect minimal, non-identifying technical data:

  • Device type and operating system (e.g., "Android 15", "Windows 11")
  • App version
  • Crash reports (stripped of personal content)

We use this data only to fix bugs and improve the app. We do not track what you read, what you look up, or how you use specific features.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Authenticate your account and manage your subscription
  • Process OCR requests through Google Cloud Vision
  • Send essential account notifications (e.g., subscription changes, password resets)
  • Diagnose crashes and improve app stability

We do not use your data to:

  • Serve or target advertisements
  • Build user profiles or behavioral analytics
  • Train machine learning or AI models
  • Sell, rent, or share with data brokers

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, and only these:

We do not use any advertising networks, social media trackers, or third-party analytics platforms.

6. Data Retention

  • Local data: Stays on your device until you delete it. We have no access to it.
  • Account data: Retained while your account is active. When you delete your account, your email and subscription records are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
  • OCR images: Not retained. Images are processed in real time and discarded immediately after results are returned.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — your reading data is already on your device. You can export it at any time.
  • Delete your account and all server-side data associated with it.
  • Opt out of crash reporting in the app settings.
  • Correct your account information at any time.
  • Downgrade from Pro to Basic at any time without losing your local data.

8. Cookies

We use only essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

LanguageDecrypt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Security

  • All network communication uses TLS encryption (HTTPS).
  • Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plaintext.
  • OCR images are transmitted over encrypted connections and are not persisted.
  • Your reading data never leaves your device in the first place.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
